Obituary for Marc Laurent Ricard

Ricard, Marc L., 77, of Plymouth, formerly of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly at home, on July 8th with his wife of 56 years by his side. He was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Laura (Belinoit) and Alpha Ricard.
Marc grew up in New Bedford. He was a successful athlete at New Bedford High School, he ran Track and Field and he threw javelin. One time, when the coach saw him throwing and running, the coach asked if he had ever thrown a javelin and Marc said no. The coach said he had to try out for javelin and he took home Bristol County’s trophy for track and field and javelin. Marc lettered in all the sports his Senior year of high school. His nickname was “The Arm”. He played baseball in high school and continued after graduating, playing in men’s leagues.
After graduating from high school, Marc went on to Worcester College, earning a degree in Business.
In 1963, Marc and Cindy got married and began their life together. They had two children; Marc L Ricard II and Danielle C Ricard. As their life went on, Marc was a loving and supportive husband and a great father. He served on the New Bedford Youth Hockey Association Board for many years and will be fondly remembered by many. Marc served as the treasurer and an assistant to art therapy inspirational art for seniors. He was also devoted to the arts and served as Treasurer of the New Bedford local cultural council. He was also involved with the New Bedford Zeiterion Theater as a volunteer for many years. Marc worked for Northrop Corporation as a Material Control Engineer before going to work for Shaw’s Supermarket as the photo lab trainer for all of the stores. He retired from Shaw’s in 2013. He will always be remembered for being kind. And he will always be loved.
Marc leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Cynthia A Ricard. He also leaves behind his adoring children; Marc L Ricard and his wife Wendy Rose, of Braintree and Danielle C Ricard of Taunton. He is survived by his brothers; Lee Ricard of NY, and Andre Ricard of TX, as well as his brother and sister in law, Louis and Nancy Hakeem. He is survived by extended family and many friends that will miss him terribly. Marc was preceded in death by his brother, Paul.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 15th at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Church, 86 Court Street, Plymouth. Interment will be private.
