Obituary for Katherine W Gray
Katherine Elizabeth Marshall Wilkinson Gray, 72, died peacefully at her home in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts on Christmas Day, 2018.
A “Friday’s child”, Kitty was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico on September 13, 1946, to Gerald Edward and Elizabeth Marshall Wilkinson.
Kitty grew up in the Tampa, Florida area and attended Florida State University where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. After graduation she became a Certified Public Accountant, and worked in that capacity until illness forced her retirement in the summer of 2018.
She married David Alfred Gray on June 19, 2004, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sandwich, Massachusetts. They moved to California where they spent 10 years living in the Knight’s Valley area where Dave was ranching. They moved back to Yarmouth Port in 2015 where Dave continued his work as a volunteer at Taylor Bray Farm.
Author Brené Brown offers that “Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion.” Kitty was a deeply spiritual person, and her life exemplified her quest for that connection. She was loved by everyone who met her.
Kitty is survived by her beloved husband Dave, her sisters Barbara (bebe) Brown of Barnstable, Massachusetts and Patricia (Patti) Andrews of Dothan, Alabama, her brother Gerald (Rocky) Wilkinson, her nephews Jody Jordan of Cumming, Georgia, Michael Andrews of Dothan, Alabama and Greggory Andrews of Atlanta, Georgia, her nieces Joy Wilkinson of Charleston, South Carolina and Holly Watson of Concord, North Carolina, and her grand-nieces and -nephews Elizabeth and Jackson Jordan, and Kenneth and Arabella Andrews. She will be missed dearly by her extended family – Vernon (Sandy) Brown, Marshall Andrews, Kari Jordan, Amanda Andrews, Mike Watson, Michelle Territo and David Gray Jr – and by her multitude of friends across the country who loved her not only for her “loving and giving”, but also for her wit, her beauty, her kindness, her empathy, her determination and her strength.
We are celebrating her life now, and will do so formally at a later date to be provided.
