Obituary for John Joseph Delaney
PLYMOUTH - John (Jack) Joseph Delaney, 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Jack was born on August 22, 1935 in Boston to Patrick J. and Mary C. (Broderick) Delaney where he grew up attending Boston schools.
Jack was the loving husband of the late Beverly Anne (Owens/Collins) for 53 years. They shared the same birthday and met when he was 12 and she 10. They married in 1958, moved to Halifax in 1962 and on to Plymouth in 1974 to a home that he built; the same home in which he lived until he passed on.
He is survived by his children, John (Jack) Jr., Janine Bishop and her husband Mark of Plymouth, Joyce McCarthy and her husband Henry of Duxbury, Beverly Delaney, Joseph Delaney and his partner Liz MacLeod, Jayne Delaney and her partner Gary Staples all of Plymouth. Jack was a loving grandfather (Papa) to his grandchildren Courtney(whom was a loving caregiver for the past five years), Malarie, Shannon and Chilton and his great-grandson, Alex. He leaves behind his devoted yellow lab, Reo and equally devoted cats Fat Cat and Doggy. Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick, James and Paul and is survived by his sister Jane. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Jack served in the Army where he specialized as a paratrooper in the Airborne Division. He worked as a Master electrician with Local 103 for many years before retiring in 1998 and spending the winter months in Frostproof, Florida.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and air boating. He enjoyed watching motocross racing, traveling throughout New England to support family and friends who participated in the sport. He was a fan of car racing too and spent many Saturday evenings at Seekonk Speedway. Jack loved animals and was surrounded by pets his entire life. Most notably were his Labrador Retrievers that he and Beverly raised; they shared their home with six labs and two cats for many years. He donated selflessly to many causes, holding a special place in his heart for homeless animals, wildlife, veterans and native Americans. He was a huge Red Sox and Patriots fan and would not miss a game: he was thrilled to witness the Red Sox win the World Series this year!
