Obituary for Geoffrey Draper

On Sunday, January 20, 2019, Geoffrey Allen Draper, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at age 82.

Geoffrey was born on January 6, 1937 in Fairhaven, MA to Henry and Alice Draper. On October 6, 1962, he married Sheila Lee Pederzani. They raised two sons, Geoffrey and David, and one daughter, Sherill. They lost a third son, Richard, in infancy.

Geoffrey was proud to be a hard-working, family-focused man. He was a “straight shooter” and believed that direct honest communication was the best way to handle any situation. He helped support his mom and siblings well into adulthood and then after marriage he spent the next 56 years in Sagamore Beach, MA providing for his family. He was a very generous man with little to give, yet he would certainly give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was a very likable humorous man and easily made friends with everyone.

Geoffrey had a passion for learning about and fixing things. He absolutely loved solving mechanical problems and improving on designs. He enjoyed fabricating and customizing tools and equipment to make them more flexible and easier to use. He was never too far from one of his many tractors, snowblowers, etc. with blowtorch in hand. In retirement, he served as the neighborhood lawn equipment repairman and snow removal expert. He had careers in house-building, plumbing, auto mechanics, electrical and even fisherman. He believed that people are capable of whatever they put their minds, as long as they “apply themselves”, and he was certainly living proof.

Geoffrey was preceded in death by both parents and all but one sibling. He is survived by his wife Sheila, his three children, Geoffrey, David and Sherill, his brother Willard, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Geoffrey asked that there be no services, and we honor those wishes and will remember him with the greatest love in our hearts.
